Thank you for your thoughts here. I feel like people are often disconnected from the knowledge making process of academia and need to be informed of this process. Unfortunately, media works on our basic servile energy and creates unhelpful habits mentality. I think a lot of people really don’t understand what intellectual regret really is. I think we have enough montages of karate heroes and sports heroes doing the work to become champions. I think it would be interesting for people to see what that would look like academically. The Queen‘s gambit as a movie I think brought some excitement to a game that, might not be see so culturally. Maybe, this also speaks to the inherently adversarial storage structures in Western media. I might be going off on attended at this point. Which is good. I feel like you work is very inspiring because it has many open questions that can be explored and lead to discussion. Would be cool to see what a sort of virtual chat would be like around these sort of questions or observations. Thank you!
If only there was a way to make intellectualizing sexy. 😂 I think that's the trick if we should ever need one. This society has normalized intellectualism and learning as boring and flat, hence why being called a geek or nerd used to mean something insulting until the nerds fought back. This takes on a whole different reality for Black people which I'll write about another time.
Thank you for being here. That's exactly what I want to do with my work - foster dialogue, shape perspectives and generate ideas & strategies. A virtual chat sounds dope!
I’m looking forward to reading your post around geeks and nerds as it relates to Black folk. I automatically think of Lupe’s Revenge of the Nerds and his early Mix Tapes.
Of course! And yes, we might have to get something setup in the future for sure.
